Great Places to Take Your Smile This Summer
We love South Dakota – especially in the summer. Although we may not be close to any large cities or white beaches, there’s no shortage of excitement during these perfect summer months. ☀
From Spearfish to Sioux Falls or Brookings to Vermillion – there are a lot of great places to take your smile this summer!
Here are some of our favorites from around the state.
Oahe Days in Pierre (June 22-23, 2018)
Right in the middle of the state, Oahe Days is a family event that features arts, crafts, vendors, food, music, a cardboard boat race, and more!
605 Summer Classic in Sioux Falls (June 22-23, 2018)
One of the highlights of the summer on the east side of the state, the 605 Summer Classic is an outdoor music event in downtown Sioux Falls. The two-day festival also incorporates the All-South Dakota Beer Tasting, and a handful of breweries from all over the state will be in attendance.
Black Hills Bluegrass Festival in Sturgis (June 22-24, 2018)
We sure like our music in South Dakota! In it’s 38th year, this festival is very family-friendly. Take in the beauty of the surrounding Black Hills while you enjoy live music, bluegrass workshops, children’s activities, and more.
Brookings Kite and Bike Festival (June 23-24, 2018)
It doesn’t matter how old you are – kite flying is FUN. This free event is open to all ages and includes kite flying, a bicycle course, face painting, and of course – SDSU ice cream. The festival is sponsored by the South Dakota Art Museum, which is another stop to add to your list while you’re in Brookings!
99th Annual Black Hills Roundup in Belle Fourche (June 30 – July 4, 2018)
If you’re a South Dakota rodeo lover, you won’t want to miss this! Head out west for four days of rodeo, carnival fun, concerts, food, parade, and more.
The whole South Dakota sky will be lit up during Independence Day weekend, but it’ll be brightest just north of Brookings in Watertown. Outside of the Terry Redlin Art Center, you and your family can enjoy an outdoor concert prior to the fireworks show. If you haven’t been before, consider going early to visit the art museum.
Tim McGraw and Faith Hill in Sioux Falls (July 8, 2018)
Country music fans won’t want to miss this show at the Denny Sanford Premier Center as Tim and Faith are making their way around the world for their Soul2Soul World Tour!
Brookings Summer Arts Festival (July 14-15, 2018)
The 47th annual Summer Arts Festival in Brookings features more than 200 artists and nearly 40 food booths. There’s also a children’s area, historic booths celebrating South Dakota, and live entertainment. We hope to see you there!
Prairie Village Annual Car Show in Madison (August 5, 2018)
In nearby Madison, where we have our second orthodontic office, the Prairie Village Car Show is a must-see for any car-loving families. In addition to the car show and awards ceremony, kids’ rides are also available.
The Turner County Fair in Parker (August 13-16, 2018)
Known as the Four Best Days of Summer, you’ll likely run into members of Dr. Meyer’s family at the Turner County Fair. If you find yourself in the little town of Parker during this week, be sure to enjoy homemade ice cream from a local Mennonite youth group (brush your teeth when you get home) and get competitive in VFW bingo. Good luck!
Riverboat Days and Summer Arts in Yankton (August 17-19, 2018)
Hit the river one last time before school starts up again by heading to Yankton for Riverboat Days. This end-of-summer event has it all – an arts and crafts show, booths, food, live music, beer garden, kids’ activities, fireworks, carnival, quilt show, and more.
Have a Great Summer!
